FROM READERS: Fundraiser at Plato's Closet benefits Heart of Missouri CASA
My strong passion and dedication to fighting poverty led me to a yearlong service commitment as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA). As the VISTA Resource Development Assistant for Heart of Missouri Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), I am proud to present our upcoming fundraiser, Fashion with Compassion Grab Bag Event.
Plato's Closet, through their Hanging Together service initiative, is partnering with Heart of Missouri CASA for the second annual Fashion with Compassion Grab Bag Event.
On July 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., shoppers can fill a grab bag with clearance items for a minimum cash donation of $15, and receive 20% off of regularly priced items in the store. The Fashion with Compassion Grab Bag Event will be held at Plato’s Closet, 2609 East Broadway, and will kick off with a special session by a DJ from Electrified Entertainment. All proceeds from grab bag sales will benefit Heart of Missouri CASA.
Event Partners such as Mustard Seed Fair Trade, Kelani Salon & Spa, Dande Cafe & Delights, YogoLuv and many more have provided coupons and raffle items for the grab bags, with Jimmy Johns providing sandwiches throughout the event.
“We are super excited to be able to share this event with CASA and bring more attention and contributions to their great organization. We expect to have a great response from our awesome customers," said Plato’s Closet owner Krisan Mindak.
Plato's Closet buys and sells the latest looks in brand name, gently used clothing and accessories for teen and twenty-something guys and gals. The Hanging Together service initiative aims to instill a sense of service amongst employers and give back to the community.
Heart of Missouri Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is an organization that trains and supports volunteers to be exceptional voices for every abused and neglected child in Boone and Callaway county family courts. Each year, more than 250 children are in the foster care system in Boone and Callaway County. The CASA Volunteers lift up the voice of these children to ensure they reach a safe and permanent home.
